GETTING AROUND You can leave Melbourne and be in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula’s hinterland in about an hour. Whether you take the coastal roads, the freeways or the seaways, you’ll be gifted with superb views en route. Self-Drive Driving gives travellers the opportunity to choose their own adventure. Driving is the best way to explore here. From EastLink at Carrum Downs, the Peninsula Link will conveniently take you to the centre of the Mornington Peninsula, ending at Rosebud. Visitors can choose electric vehicles as a way of being more sustainable, with charge points all across the Mornington Peninsula. Escorted Tours Travelling with a local is one of the most convenient ways to explore, especially for those with limited time. Guided tours from hop-on hop-off, full private and group tours operate throughout the region, and travelers can tap into their expert knowledge. By Public Transport Public transport around the Mornington Peninsula is via a combination of train and bus services. From Frankston train station, there are buses available to Portsea on the Port Phillip coastline and to Flinders via Hastings on the Western Port side. There is no public transport in the hinterland area however, private escorted tour companies do service this area. By Sea Vehicular and passenger ferries link Sorrento across Port Philip to Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula and onto the Great Ocean Road. Ferries run on the hour every hour during the day and offer magnificent views. There is a small inter-island ferry between Stony Point and Phillip Island that carries passengers only. It also stops at French island in the middle of Western Port.
